Alice Ashenden

Age: 25

TradeBusiness Administrator

Borough: Greenwich

Apprenticeship: Level 3 Business Administration

College: InTraining

Background: Alice was previously a sales advisor in Argos. Although she wasn’t struggling to find work, when it came to looking at possible career prospects, Argos is not where she saw herself in five years’ time. This is where she started looking for an apprenticeship and found K10.

During the Apprenticeship: ‘I didn’t necessarily see myself working in the construction industry but now I’m glad I am. Working on a building site was fun. Working within construction, in general, was something different. I found working as a trainee business administrator came naturally to me and I didn’t realise that it would. It wasn’t too challenging but was challenging enough to keep it interesting and for me to thoroughly enjoy it.’

‘The first site I was on was with STV. It was in the head office and was quite small. This enabled me to get to know everyone, they were all very welcoming. The last site I was on was with Lorne Stewart. There was so much work for me to do here and I was a lot more independent here than I was on previous sites. I was given tasks that I was able to do by myself and this allowed me to gather a lot of evidence for my NVQ. The people I was working with were also really lovely. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone. You get the experience and the qualification at the same time and a bonus is that it was so much fun. K10 as a whole were extremely helpful. Jack, my Apprenticeship Manager was always there to support me and came to see me on site regularly to ensure it was all going well. K10 got me a career in what I never knew I wanted to do and most of all got me out of working at Argos.’

After the Apprenticeship: Alice is now working full time as a Document Controller for Lorne Stewart in Chelsea earning £25,000.
