Jack’s Made His Way Through The Pipeline

Jack Cornell

Jack Cornell

Age: 22

Trade: Plumber

Borough: Waltham Forest

Apprenticeship: Level 2 Plumbing Studies

College: College of North East London

Background: Jack was studying at Epping Forest College part time to achieve his Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies alongside working part time as a checkout assistant in Sainsbury’s.

What happened next: Jack explained that he applied to a range of apprenticeships all over but K10 was the only one to get back to him as we were the only ones to have a placement in his home borough of Waltham Forest. He was then brought in for interview, passed and put on site at Leyton High Road with Bellway Homes and C&C Plumbing and Heating as a Trainee Plumber.

During the Apprenticeship: Jack went on to say ‘I had really good management both on site and off. Jack as my Apprenticeship Manager was brilliant. We got on well and he was always there to help. If I had any questions about college or any issues on site, Jack sorted it. I also liked the contractor I was placed with, Bellway, as the team I worked with included other K10 apprentices so we were all working together and encouraged each other as well as having support from our site manager.  This made the job really enjoyable and I’ve made some really good friends from it. C&C Plumbing and Heating gave me a really good first site experience. They knew what they were doing, I really enjoyed working with them and they helped me a lot on site. When I first started, I was categorically inexperienced and they taught me everything I know to this day’. Jack also went on to say ‘ I have nothing negative to say about K10, everything was handed to us on a plate, Jack and the rest of the team were always so supportive for example when our tools got stolen, we were given an extra tool allowance to buy more and we appreciated it so much because I don’t think we would have been given that elsewhere. K10 literally got me to where I am now, I have a new job now and am so grateful with the opportunity I was given.’

After the Apprenticeship: Jack has since been employed with John Bold Ltd in Chingford being trained on site in Gas Maintenance. As he is still in training he is on £18,000 but when he becomes qualified this will significantly increase.

‘Jack’s eagerness to learn was something that stood out straight away during his first interview at K10. He never complained or raised any issues at work and was really well liked by his colleagues on site. I’m happy for Jack and glad he’s progressing even further now he completed with K10, he’s a great lad that deserves the success that will be coming his way.’  Jack Speckman
