The Benefits of an Apprenticeship

CRUZ Da Jone - Chobham

Direct Line for Business interviewed K10 Apprenticeships’ Jone Da Cruz for their Tradesman Toolbox – an information hub for construction tradespeople, with a particular focus on showcasing apprenticeships.

Many young people, especially those who are about to or have just left school, do not always know exactly what they want to do as a career. Some go to university and end up studying a course that interests them and others choose to go into direct employment. For those who choose to enter the world of work immediately, the best way into an industry is through an apprenticeship. This particular route enables people to gain knowledge through both practical experience and lesson based theoretical experience in college. But don’t just take our word for it…

Jone Da Cruz was a Level 2 Plumbing Studies Apprentice here at K10, but since completing this course he has started a further qualification as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager on site with Taylor Wimpey. You can read his full story here.

Nick Breton, Head of DL4B, said: “Apprenticeships are important for budding builders, plumbers and electricians to get into the workplace. With fewer people in apprenticeships there is a risk of creating a skills gap that will affect businesses and consumers alike.  Construction and trade based skills are vital to the UK economy. It’s tradespeople who come to the rescue when our boiler fails, and are the ones who are working every day to build homes, offices and help improve our roads.”

DL4B recognised the many fantastic career options that K10’s Apprenticeship programme provides and in addition to featuring Jone, they also spoke to K10’s own Taahira Begum and Jabari Brown.
