Apprenticeship: Level 3 Electrical Installations
Background: Before joining K10, Tusar was studying towards his Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations. After he completed the qualification, he was looking for work but got rejected many times due to his lack of experience. The companies he was approaching were big and he had the qualifications but not the experience.
During the Apprenticeship: Being on site as a whole was such a great experience for me. I was able to gain different experience from working on different jobs and with different people. Completing the apprenticeship and now being a qualified electrician is such a great feeling and the tool allowance was a massive help. Tusar was placed on site with Base as his first host contractor. ‘I really like working with Base, they offered me over time which was great as the apprentice wage wasn’t great and this helped me as I was able to do more electrical work and improve my skill. I covered a lot of my course working here as every two months I was changing the focus of my role and this was great. When I was working with Farr Engineering, I had a great time there too as there was a lot of work to do. It was a commercial site and I really liked working with the guys there. They were easy to get along with, the manager never stuck me to one activity, and it allowed me to learn a lot here. Dave on this site had so much experience and he really helped me offering me advice all the time, anything I needed to do for College, Dave would provide such as plans, H&S docs, things like that for me to use.
‘If I could say anything to myself it would be to keep going and don’t give up and always strive for the best. Things won’t go the way you plan, they go up and down but perseverance allows you to get there, the moment you give up is the moment you realise you haven’t made it. Jack, my apprenticeship manager was so great. Whenever I had a question or a query, Jack was always there, there was never a time he didn’t pick up the phone, it was so great. I am grateful to the whole team at K10.’
After the Apprenticeship: Tusar is currently studying Electrical Engineering at university as he would like to pursue teaching what he loves doing when he is older. He is also coming back to join the K10 team as an electrical improver in Camden.
